Holier than thou.

Before I proceed, kindly read this news.

I was really offended when I saw the news. Offended on behalf of the girl, of course. I mean, how can people be so shallow?

It's really hard to be talking about this issue because I know for a fact that there has been an ongoing debate over this matter for many years already but really, does your tudung really define your piety? I apologize for all the potential sighs and head-shaking that I might get from you people but first and foremost, I even wear the tudung myself.

And yet never has it ever crossed my mind that I am better than anyone. Yes we all know for a fact that it's an obligation to the believers (I rather not go into this because my opinion on the terms "compulsory" and "obligation" might somehow not be a pleasant explanation) but does not donning it makes one less of a believer compared to the rest? Isn't that ridiculous?

I extremely despise it when people judge other people based on their appearance because I know for sure that not everyone with the tudung is as nice as they seem. I have friends who don't wear them and yet have a more modest life compared to mine - they even have bigger hearts compared to some of the tudung friends I know. Please, be offended if you must because it's the truth and I'm also talking about myself.

How can you condemn this girl's success just because she doesn't wear tudung? How can you curse her that her success is of no meaning just because she doesn't wear tudung? How can you deny her accomplishment just because she doesn't wear tudung? She might pray more than 5 times a day compared to some head-covering so-called know-it-alls. Who killed the One and made you God? Please.

It's so easy to dismiss someone's right to their way of life just because you think you're better than them. But really, what makes you think those with tudungs need no more "reminders" and teachings alike? Because I know I still need them though. It's just so embarrassing that the mentality of our kinds has downgraded to this.

What makes you think once she has donned the tudung, everything will be perfect? Good lord, even the ones with the tudung since they were young are not guaranteed with this. You know those tudung-wearing girls on Instagram? Who post selfies of their make-up clad face almost everyday? I'm not going to condemn the make-up wearing but do you know tabarruj is haram too? And yet it's okay for them to do that because why, "at least they covered their heads". Lol, double standard at its best.

My goodness, I don't mean to sound judgmental but the fact that I'm trying to address these judgmental comments made towards this girl requires me to be judgmental as well. At least I'd know what it means to see things from their point of view. And yet, I failed to see it. What's wrong with some people nowadays, I can't quite seem to understand.

Because come on, is it really that hard to congratulate her and pray for her success and well-being instead? Oh well, I guess condemning helps you earn more points in the hereafter rather than praying for her, huh? All right then, I rest my case.

But then again, to each his own. Wallahua'lam.
